Anthony Mazzella & Friends, Julie Floyd and Chuckie Charles

at Relics Restaurant Saturday, August 23rd

Acclaimed guitar virtuoso Anthony Mazzella and friends will be performing at Relics restaurant on Saturday Night Aug. 23, 2014 at 7 p.m. The show will feature two fresh faces that are new to the Sedona performance stage. Singers Julie Floyd and Chuckie Charles will each perform a half hour set of classic vocal songs. Guitarist Anthony Mazzella will headline the evening with an instrumental one hour set of the most incredible guitar playing you will most likely have ever heard and/or seen!

Anthony began his performance career as a concert guitarist in New York City. He quickly built up a strong following performing in most every live music club in Manhattan including: The Bitter End, CBGB's, Cat Club, Cafe Wah, Birdland etc. Anthony then landed a headlining spot at the BLUE NOTE NYC just one year after street performing in front of it and spent the following years touring colleges & universities all over the USA.

He then went on to performing on stages all over the world as a solo artist and as the concert guitarist for world music master Omar Faruk Tekbilek. Anthony has also performed internationally at events for Wynn Las Vegas, Bellagio, The Mirage, Montage, Nike, Puma to name a few. He has opened for headlining artists, James Brown, Tower of Power, The Commodores, and Spyro Gyra.

A notable performance was at The Vatican in Rome Italy where Anthony lived for several years. His original music is composed with a fusion of world influences consisting of acoustic and electric finger-style, classical, flamenco, jazz, funk, R&B, ccelti, ambient, rock, medieval & Persian. Mazzella began studying music on the violin at age 5. He then proceeded to learn the rudiments of music on piano until falling in love with the guitar at age 13.

Throughout his adolescence he studied with several private guitar teachers, but Anthony attributes the greater part of his education to ear training.

His influences are many, but none more profound than the music and techniques of guitar masters such as Michael Hedges, Pat Metheny, Carlos Montoya, Pepe Romero, William Ackerman, Eddie Van Halen, Andres Segovia and countless others.

In the '90s, Anthony shared his musical insights by teaching at Knopf Music (where he once took guitar lessons), as a private instructor, and at the Long Island School for Music and Arts.

Anthony was also one of the few chosen understudies of world-renowned guitar master Stanley Jordan. If you are a fan of guitar music do not miss this world-class virtuoso! Be sure to watch some of Anthony's video's on YouTube or his website anthonymazzella.com and make your reservations soon!

Modern singer Julie Floyd has loved music and choir since she was a little girl. The moment she knew she wanted to sing was when given a cassette tape of the number one selling female vocalist of all time Mariah Carey, "Vision Of Love."

She sang along to it endlessly and never took voice lessons. Julie being a natural talent and having the God given gift of great ears, She just listened to Mariah and sang perfectly what she heard. Julies other influences are Celine Dion, Enya, Jewel and Amy lee to name a few.

During high school she was always elected to sing the national anthem for the basketball games and considered "the" singer of her class. Julie recently auditioned for the hit TV show "The Voice" in Denver Colorado and considers that audition the first step toward making her long time dream of being a professional singer come true.

This will be Julie's second live performance to date. Her first was at the Bel Canto Pageant last month where she blew the audience away with her golden voice!

Chuckie Charles:  “I’m goin’ pro when I am 57”, imagined Chuckie, a 15 year-old Chicago crooner.  His stage was his Dad’s living room overlooking Mr. Kelly’s on the corner where State meets Rush.  Jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz and comedians like Lenny Bruce and Woody Allen and yes, Chuckie’s idol; Francis Albert Sinatra sang there.  It was August 1973 when the 57 year-old Frank Sinatra came out of retirement, releasing “Old Blue Eyes is Back”.  By then, Chuckie could impersonate the whole 1965, Quincy Jones arranged “Live at the Sands” album conducted by Count Basie.  Chuckie gravitated to Frank’s matured quality voice, that decades and just the right dosage of cigarettes and Jack Daniels created.  Chuckie Charles, the crooner, is the alter ego of Charles Cottle, a Sedona resident and ex-floor trader turned author of books and videos on options trading

He turns 57 in September so at Anthony Mazzella’s invitation, this baritone selected a cool set of standards for this professional debut.  Chuckie dreams of collaborating with a creative arranger, some day, to perform Sinatra-Esque cover songs from the likes of Jonny Cash, the Beatles, Sheryl Crow, Neil Young, Iggy Pop and Bruce Springsteen, to name a few.  In the meantime, Chuckie Charles will be performing to some decent backtracks and doing what he has been doing, in his living room while playing 8-Ball, for over 40 years.  Chuckie has no illusions about what the future will bring but hey, this should be fun even if he doesn’t bring his 100 year-old pool table up on stage.

The show is on Saturday August 23rd at RELICS Restaurant which is located at 3235 89A. Showtime is at 7:00pm. The show charge is $15 for preferred seating with purchase of food and/or cocktails or $20 for the show only. Doors open at 6:30pm for show only.
